Overview
Thermocouple Type-K Glass Braid Insulated is a bare-wire bead-probe sensor designed for measuring air or surface temperature in high-heat applications. It is especially useful where typical vinyl-insulated probes may soften or fail, such as ovens, heaters, boilers, kilns, and HVAC setups.
This K-type thermocouple uses fiberglass over-braiding and is best suited for temperatures above 100°C, with use up to 500°C (900°F). Since a thermocouple is simply two dissimilar metals joined together, it does not contain onboard electronics and produces only a very small voltage that must be read by a suitable interface circuit.
For reliable readings, use it with a thermocouple amplifier or interface such as the MAX31855, AD8495, MAX31856, or MAX6675. A small heat-shrink sleeve near the end helps prevent fraying during handling, but remove it before use above 250°C. Also note that some units may have red and yellow wires marked in reverse; if the temperature reading drops when the probe is heated, simply swap the two leads.

Connections & Usage Notes
| Lead / Note | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Positive Lead | Thermocouple Output | Connect to the positive thermocouple input of a compatible amplifier or interface board. |
| Negative Lead | Thermocouple Output | Connect to the negative thermocouple input of a compatible amplifier or interface board. |
| Heat-Shrink Sleeve | Handling Feature | Helps reduce fraying of the fiberglass braid during handling and installation. |
| Above 250°C | Warning | Remove the heat-shrink sleeve before operation above 250°C. |
| Wire Polarity Check | Usage Note | If heating the probe makes the reported temperature go down, reverse the two wires. |
| Amplifier Required | Interface Note | Thermocouple signals are very small, so a dedicated thermocouple interface chip is strongly recommended. |
