Overview

Adafruit MLX90632 FIR Remote Thermal Temperature Sensor is a non-contact infrared temperature sensor breakout for measuring the temperature of an object without touching it. It is a practical choice for checking surfaces that are very hot, very cold, moving, fragile, or simply inconvenient to probe directly.

This board is built around the MLX90632SLD-DCB sensor and communicates over I2C. It can report both the remote object temperature and the local temperature on the chip. The medical version is factory calibrated for ±0.2°C accuracy from 35°C to 42°C, and it also supports an extended object temperature range of -20°C to 100°C.

The breakout comes in Adafruit's STEMMA QT form factor, with connectors on both sides for quick solderless hookup and easy daisy-chaining with other I2C boards. Onboard voltage regulation and level shifting let it work with both 3V and 5V systems, including Arduino-compatible boards, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers or microcomputers with I2C.

Important: the sensor has a 50° field of view, so it works best when placed only a few centimetres or inches from the target. From farther away, it measures the average temperature over a larger area.
