Overview

Adafruit TMP235 - Plug-and-Play STEMMA Analog Temperature Sensor is a simple way to add temperature sensing to your project without dealing with digital protocols, libraries, or configuration registers. It works much like the familiar TMP36, but comes on a breakout with a 3-pin JST PH STEMMA connector for quick wiring.

This is an analog output sensor, so it is best suited for microcontrollers that provide an analog input pin. Just connect power, ground, and the signal line, then read the output voltage and convert it directly to temperature in Celsius.

The board accepts 3V to 5V DC power. For many Arduino-compatible boards, especially an Arduino UNO, improved readings can be achieved by using a stable analog reference such as 3.3V connected to AREF. Please note: this board uses a 3-pin JST PH cable, and the cable is not included.

Specification

Technical details for Adafruit TMP235 Plug-and-Play STEMMA Analog Temperature Sensor.

Specification Details
Sensor type Analog temperature sensor
Connector 3-pin JST PH STEMMA connector
Supply voltage 3V to 5V DC
Output range 0V at -50°C to 1.75V at 125°C
Temperature formula Temp °C = 100 × (reading in V) - 50
Interface Analog output, not I2C
Compatibility Microcontrollers with an analog input
Cable note 3-pin JST PH cable required, not included

Pinout

Pin Type Description
Red Power Connect to 3V to 5V DC supply
Black Ground Connect to system ground
White Analog signal Connect to a microcontroller analog input pin

Getting Started

Plug the sensor into a compatible 3-pin JST PH cable, power it from 3V to 5V, and route the white signal wire to an analog input. Read the sensor voltage and apply the conversion formula to get the temperature in °C.

Compatible cable styles mentioned for use include 3-pin JST PH cables with header ends and versions with alligator clips.
