Adafruit DAC6578 Breakout brings eight voltage-output DAC channels to a single easy-to-use I2C board. Built around the DAC6578, it gives you 8 independent 10-bit DAC outputs for generating analog voltages from a microcontroller or single-board computer.
Adafruit DAC6578 Breakout brings eight voltage-output DAC channels to a single easy-to-use I2C board. Built around the DAC6578, it gives you 8 independent 10-bit DAC outputs for generating analog voltages from a microcontroller or single-board computer.
The board works with both 3.3V and 5V power and logic, making it suitable for Arduino, Feather, Raspberry Pi, and other I2C-capable platforms. With onboard support circuitry and STEMMA QT / Qwiic-compatible connectors, integration is straightforward whether you are prototyping on a breadboard or building a neater cable-based setup.
This DAC is ratiometric, so the output range depends on the reference voltage: zero-scale maps to ground, and full-scale maps to the reference. By default, the reference is tied to VCC, but you can cut the Vref jumper and feed an external reference voltage up to the VCC level for applications that need a more precise top-end output.
Note: QT / STEMMA QT cable is not included.
Technical details for the Adafruit DAC6578 Breakout.
| Brand | Adafruit |
|---|---|
| Model | DAC6578 Breakout |
| DAC Resolution | 10-bit |
| Channels | 8 |
| Interface | 2-wire serial interface (I2C compatible) |
| Supply Voltage | +2.7V to +5.5V |
| Logic Compatibility | 3.3V and 5V |
| Glitch Energy | 0.15nV-s |
| Power Consumption | 0.13mA/ch at 5V |
| Temperature Range | -40°C to +125°C |
| Power-On Reset | Zero scale |
| Default I2C Address | 0x4C |
The breakout exposes the core power, reference, I2C, and output connections needed for quick integration into analog control, waveform generation, or test setups.
| Pin | Name | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | VCC | Power input; use the same logic-level supply as your controller |
| 2 | VRf | Reference voltage input; tied to VCC by default |
| 3 | GND | Common ground for power and logic |
| 4 | SCL | I2C clock line |
| 5 | SDA | I2C data line |
| 6-13 | DAC 0-7 | Eight analog voltage output channels |
| 14 | LDAC | Load DAC control pin for output update behavior |
| 15 | CLR | Clears DAC registers and buffers to the configured clear state |
The output is reference-dependent: by default, full-scale output follows VCC. If you need a precision ceiling such as 4.095V, cut the Vref jumper, power the board from 5V, and feed 4.095V into the VRf pin.
Variant note: this listing is for the DAC6578 10-bit version, not the 12-bit DAC7578 variant.
