Overview

This tiny breakout packs a serious punch when you need reliable 5V power from low-voltage batteries. The Adafruit TPS61023 MiniBoost looks like a classic linear regulator, but it’s actually a high-efficiency step-up (boost) converter that takes 2–5V DC input and delivers a solid 5V output at up to 1A, making it perfect for portable and battery-powered projects.

Built around Texas Instruments’ TPS61023, this board integrates dual high-current MOSFET switches and is tuned for real-world use. The output is set slightly higher at 5.2V to compensate for cable and connector losses, ensuring your downstream electronics still see a clean 5V rail. With a single Li-ion/Li-poly battery, efficiency stays around 88% at moderate loads, only dropping when you push close to the 1A limit.

Whether you’re boosting power from a near-dead LiPo, two or three AA cells, or NiMH batteries, this fully assembled breakout makes it easy. Just feed power into the VIN pin, take regulated 5V from 5V pin, and use the EN pin for a true shutdown when you want to completely disconnect the output. Simple, efficient, and extremely handy for compact builds where every millimeter and milliamp counts.
