Overview
If you need reliable, non-volatile storage for calibration data, MAC addresses, device IDs, or configuration values, EEPROM is the simplest and most dependable option. Unlike flash memory, EEPROM allows true byte-level writes, survives power loss, and supports up to one million write cycles without wearing out.
The Adafruit 24LC32 I2C EEPROM Breakout uses the CAT24C32 (or equivalent) to provide 32 Kbit (4 KB) of external EEPROM over I2C, making it ideal for microcontrollers that lack built-in EEPROM—especially many ARM Cortex boards. Because the memory lives outside your MCU, firmware updates won’t erase your stored data.
This breakout supports Standard, Fast, and Fast-Plus I2C modes up to 1 MHz and operates from 1.7 V to 5.5 V logic, making it compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V systems. Three address pins allow up to eight EEPROMs on the same I2C bus, while onboard STEMMA QT connectors make chaining quick and solder-free.
